Amethyst - the February Birthstone

Amethyst - the February Birthstone

Amethyst's rich history, stunning appearance, and spiritual significance make it a captivating crystal with a wide range of uses and meanings. Whether worn as jewelry, used in meditation, or displayed as a decorative item, Amethyst continues to be a beloved and cherished gemstone by many.
Amethyst is a variety of quartz - the purple color of Amethyst comes from the presence of iron and aluminum impurities in the quartz.
While Amethysts are primarily formed naturally, there are methods to produce synthetic Amethyst in laboratories. These methods involve creating conditions that mimic the natural processes of crystal formation, but with controlled parameters. Synthetic Amethysts can be identical in terms of physical and chemical properties to natural ones.

Amethyst as a Birthstone:
Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February.
It is believed to bring clarity of mind and calmness, it is often used in meditation practices to enhance spiritual awareness, some also believe Amethyst can protect against negative energies.
It is associated with the third eye chakra and is believed to enhance intuition and psychic abilities. In alternative and holistic healing practices, Amethyst is believed to have various health benefits, including stress relief and improving sleep quality.

Crushed Amethysts vs. Cut Amethyst:
While Amethyst is most commonly associated with a deep purple color, it can also exhibit shades ranging from pale lilac to a reddish-purple.
Some crystals, including Amethyst, lose their color when crushed into smaller shards (which is known as pleochroism). This phenomenon is not unique to Amethyst; it can occur with other minerals as well.
The crushed or powdered form may appear less vibrant or even colourless - in other words, crushing the crystal alters its optical effects which may lead to a loss of the distinctive color seen in larger, intact crystals.
